The Pool

When I was little, going to the pool was a special treat. My family would get slathered up with sunscreen and then go out to jump into the inviting water. We had many birthday parties here with all of our friends. All grown up, I now find a different use for the pool. I go there to work off all of the sugar I have eaten during the day. I go there quite a bit to either run or participate in a cardio class. It is very fun to struggle through your work out with friends and then take a nice relaxing soak in the hot springs. The pool has been a fun place to go in Routt County throughout my eighteen years.

Swimming

Some sports in Routt County aren't as big as others and swimming is definitely one of them. Most people don't even know that we have a team, but that kind of makes it special. I have been on the team since I was five years old, and every summer I have practically lived at the pool. I have even come to like the smell of chlorine, which most people think is disgusting. The Steamboat Springs Health and Rec. has been around for so long that it could be a landmark by now. When you walk in the entrance there are pictures from when it was first built; next to those pictures are some of the swim team in the newly remodeled version today. I like to compare because I see the huge differences, but also I see people doing the same thing we did only about a hundred years ago.

The Rec. Center

I can easily say that about half of every day was spent at the rec. center. I spent my afternoons in the weights room and my nights in the pools. I trained for soccer and basketball there. I have had many good times swimming with family, good friends and the only place I could meet girls were at the pools. I enjoyed the natural Jacuzzis and the slide very much and respect the work that the people do around there. I also loved how we had a membership there and I was able to just sigh my name and be in like that. I use to go there about twice a day just to stay fit because I was able to. If it weren’t for the rec. center I wouldn’t have the body that I do.
