New Frontiers Girls to Women
|
Our Mission To improve the self-sufficiency of girls and women in Northwest Colorado through programs that address education, current issues, goal-setting, work/life opportunities, financial literacy, mentoring and self-esteem.
We are virtually an all-volunteer organization, with very modest amounts paid for data base assistance. Board Members, program organizers, presenters and facilitators are volunteers from the community. Our costs are for event facilities, food and material preparation.

- 10th year in Steamboat. Over 1200 girls have attended to-date, with about 100 women volunteers at each year’s events.

Mother-Daughter Day - May, 2008
- For 5th grade girls and their moms, to strengthen mother-daughter communication and relationships as the girls transition to middle school.
- 5th annual in Steamboat. Over 150 girls have attended to-date.
Financial Literacy Workshop - April 3, 2008
- For 11th graders (boys and girls) in Routt High Schools, an off-campus event to learn about financial responsibility and economic self-sufficiency. Initiated, in part, because of data on credit card debt.
- We have expanded this program in 2008 to include 11th graders in all Routt County schools and offer better small group discussion venues, doubling its attendance and more than doubling its cost.

Women, Wealth and Wisdom Speaker Series
- For adult women, to empower and enrich with presentations on various topics.
- First event held in Feb 2007 on personal financial management and wealth accumulation. 50 women attended our first event.
Next event is March 20, 2008. Topic is "Glass Ceiling: Shattered or Galvanized?
Mentoring
- Project with Partners in Routt County to have 2008 middle school-based mentors gather information as input to our needs assessment and program planning, and to assist with prepairing gils for the Girls to Wome conference.

We raise most of our money from local businesses and individuals. Since our beginning, we have received grants from the Women’s Foundation of Colorado, currently in an amount of about 20% of our annual budget. In 2007, we began applying for other local grants, as well.
Contributions are payable to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, New Frontiers Fund and are tax-deductible.
