Nature of Program/ Weekly Work Schedule
School Based Mentors work with Partners in Routt County Healthy Lifestyle Mentoring Program. Mentoring goals include providing local middle school children with in school programming and supporting the community by providing afterschool programming and coordinating community service projects. Some of the school programs that have been provided in the past include a environmental awareness and recycling club, Chess Club, an outdoor recreation/adventure sports club, a girls leadership club, book clubs and various sports clubs. Service Projects include: National Youth Service Day programming, Martin Luther King Day Activities, Make a Difference Day, National Mentoring Projects, Kick Butts Day, The Great American Smokeout and other meaningful priorotiy service projects. School Based Mentors will be assigned to one of three county middle schools: Hayden Middle School, Soroco Middle School or Steamboat Springs Middle School.

Mentors generally work 43 hours a week on average, Monday through Friday. Usually, mentors have their weekends to themselves. However, there may be occasions on which mentors will be asked to provide services to students or the community in the evening or on weekends. This type of work is considered an integral part of AmeriCorps programming and is mandatory.
