Development in Routt County has created the need to protect open space areas. The Routt County Zoning Regulations, Steamboat Springs Community Area Plan, the Routt County Master Plan, the South Steamboat Springs Area Land Use Plan, the Stagecoach Community Plan, the West of Steamboat Springs Area Plan and other plans developed in our community address the issue of protecting open space. The Concerned Citizens group diligently works to maintain the designated key open space in Routt County.

The Division of Wildlife manages the state's 960 wildlife species. It regulates hunting and fishing activities by issuing licenses and enforcing regulations. The division also manages more than 230 wildlife areas for public recreation, conducts research to improve wildlife management activities, provides technical assistance to private and other public landowners concerning wildlife and habitat management, and develops programs to protect and recover threatened and endangered species.
