With more than 300 inches of annual snowfall, large open parks and meadows, maintained roads and wide open powder fields Routt County is ideal for Snowmobiling. Before heading into the back country be sure to check the avalanche danger and before going out onto a frozen lake, pond or river, it's important to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of falling through the ice. Knowing how to judge conditions will also help you make more informed decisions while enjoying winter activities. There are two local Snowmobiling Clubs: The Routt Powder Riders - meeting dates are the 2nd Tuesday of the Month at Yampa Valley Electric meeting room at 7 PM and the Steamboat Lake Snow Club (which is more than just for snowmobilers).
