If you are new to the Yampa Valley, you might wonder why so many people have post office boxes for mail delivery. Historically, mail was delivered by the US Postal Service only to mailboxes for those who lived outside of the city of Steamboat Springs. If you lived "in town" you were expected to maintain a post office box at one of the two post offices. Today, many neighborhoods have cluster boxes, and the US Postal Service will deliver to those neighborhood boxes. However, many neighborhoods do not have cluster boxes, and so residents still receive their mail at a PO Box. Check with the post office to find out how you will need to receive your mail.
