Brief Biography:

Jewell began skiing but switched to snowboarding at the age of 10. Some career highlights: He placed in the top 20 twice at the Junior Worlds while in high school without even having a coach. H e placed 11th at the 2006. Olympics in Torino, was the 2005 National and Nor-Am cup Champion. In 2002 he won the Steamboat Springs, Colorado, FIS PGS event and placed 6th in PGS at the South American Cup. Jewell won the 2001 Continental Cup in Park City, Utah and had four Nor-Am podium appearances in 2001.

Jewell gave up snowboarding for four years to pursue an education degree at Boston College. He played four years of varsity lacrosse while at college. Jewell understands the value of hard work and dedication. Upon graduating from college in 1999, he moved all over the country, lived out of his car, slept in a tent, ate his meals at a hospital (because they were cheap and nutritious) and worked odd jobs (dug ditches and sold sausages at county fairs) to pay for his dream of becoming a professional snowboarder. A local Steamboat Springs family took in Jewell and it was here that he found the exact environment that allowed his skills to flourish and qualify him for the Olympics. Jewell says he is thankful to the Roberts family for inviting him into their home and treating him like family, which they continue to do. “The Steamboat community is one that supports Olympic athletes at the most important time, before they are Olympic athletes,” he says.
He spends his summers enhancing his entrepreneurial skills and working to pay for his winter racing. Jewell enjoys rock climbing, surfing and reading.
