Brief Biography:
Battelle began competing after graduating from Middlebury College in Middlebury Vermont in 1989. Battelle moved to Steamboat to join the Winter Sports Club. She met Park Smalley and together they set a goal of making the US Ski team in two years. Battelle ended up doing just that and competed in the 1992 Olympics.

Battelle improved as the years went on, winning her first US Nationals in 1993, her first World Cup in 1997 and first world championships in 1999. She also won her first World Cup Moguls in 1999.

Battelle suffered a shoulder injury as a result of a crash at summer camp three weeks before her wedding to her husband Sancha Ayad in September 2000 and had to wear a shoulder sling during her wedding. After a few months of rehab, she returned to competition in January 2001 and earned Top-10 finishes in four of the five World Cup competitions she entered.

She is now the proud mother of a two-year-old named Emmy and is expecting Emmy’s sibling in August of 2005.
