Brief Biography: Alborn started skiing at the age of 3 and ski jumping at the age of 9 in Alaska. His father was an airline pilot and later moved the family to Denver, Colorado in 1995. He joined the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and his mother drove him to Steamboat every weekend. After one season it was decided he should live in Steamboat Springs and he boarded with different families. In 2001 he became the first American to jump further than 200 meters and placed 4th in the World Cup competition in Engelberg, Switzerland. His 2002 season saw Alan reach a personal best jump of 221.5 meters. That same year he finished 11th in the National titles at the U.S. Ski Jumping Championships in Steamboat Springs. These victories earned him the nickname “Airborne.” In 2003 he retired from skiing because of a knee injury and worked along side his Dad in Alaska as an excavator. In the winter of 2004 he returned back to skiing.
