Educational programming is an important part of the museum's mission. Year-round, we offer programs and events that increase the understanding and appreciation of our community's rich heritage.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Tread of Pioneers Museum proudly presents:

“Legendary Ladies of the West”

Friday, March 28th
Noon and again at 5:30 PM
at the United Methodist Church
(8th and Oak St.– across from the museum)


Costumed character monologues from some of the most notable women of the West: “Doc” Susie Anderson, Physician; Annie Oakley, Markswoman; the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown; and more! Also hear from local women currently making history right here in the Yampa Valley. Fun for the whole family!

Pioneer Day Block Party - July 4th

Every year on July 4th, Strings in the Mountains joins the Tread of the Pioneers Museum in presenting the annual "Pioneer Day Block Party". This "old fashioned" block party takes place (following the 4th of July parade down Lincoln Ave.) in front of the Museum at 8th and Oak Streets. All will enjoy the live brass band, FREE admission to the museum, community displays, childrens's activites, refreshments and the museum's famous Routt Beer Floats! This is a great event for the whole family. Call 879-2214 for more information.

From the extinct mining town of Mt. Harris, to outlaws, to local agriculture to founding families... learn about it all, at the Tread of Pioneers Museum.

Olympic Heritage Walking Tour

Meet in front of the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St

This tour will lead participants through the beginnings of Steamboat’s skiing and Olympic tradition and explore Steamboat’s current role in the Olympic Community. Begin at the Tread of Pioneers Museum and meander through downtown to the base of Howelsen Hill, while being introduced to the multiple talents of Carl Howelsen, the history of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and Winter Carnival, and the importance of Howelsen Hill in the Steamboat Springs community.

Meet in front of the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St

This tour will focus on Steamboat Springs’ early settlers and historic buildings. Learn about some of the area’s most influential people, such as Carl Howelsen, Margaret Crawford, and Doc Willett. Historic buildings included on the tour are the Old Town Pub, the Pilot Building, and the Pioneer Building. Photographs of these historic buildings will be available during the tour for participants to gain a better understanding of the unique history and importance of these buildings.
