The Red Cross Hospital was originally a maternity hospital built by Mrs. S. F. Hamilton in 1921 and headed by Dr. J. H. Cole and Dr. G. W. Landon. In 1927 Dr. Clayton J. Bennett bought both the hospital and Dr. Cole's residence and took over the practice. Currently, the building at405 S. Sharp Avenue, is a private residence.
In 1921 the Red Cross hospital had a basement which housed a large men's ward and four rooms on the main floor, one of which was an operating room and the other three were patient rooms. Its exterior looks much the same today with a hip roof and a wrap-around porch.
