The Phippsburg Apartments were two buildings located on the corner of Routt Street and Third Street on the west side of town. The original occupants that stayed there were miners and later railroaders used these apartments. When the owners tore down the buildings in the mid- 1950’s, the small westside building was torn down first. In the original demolition, they only tore down half of the building. At a later date, they did the other half and the second building. When the apartments were gone, some of the miners and railroaders stayed at the hotel, which the locals called The Beanery. The remainder of the occupants of the apartments either moved into boxcars or built houses of their own, or moved to another town. The Phippsburg apartments consisted of two buildings that had 30-40 rooms in each building. The buildings sat next to each other. The apartment building furthest to the east was facing the street. The roofs on the buildings were front gabled and both had a single window on the top floor located at each end. What sits in this spot now are residential homes.
