Sam Mendel built the Phippsburg Church in 1930 at an approximate cost of $1,905. The church consists of two stories and a basement, and was dedicated on March 8th, 1931. The first pastor was Burgett, who lived in the parsonage that was originally located on Fifth Avenue. The church also held a Sunday School. In 1972, the church was closed because of declining attendance and, since they paid the pastor through a collection box, the pastor didn’t get paid. To this day, the church has its original bell and the original shape. The building has vinyl siding ,is painted white, has a peak roof, and the foundation is cement.

The Phippsburg Church is now owned by the Phippsburg Community Club, a nonprofit organization who use it as a thrift store. The church holds bridge games, 4-H meetings, parties, and can be rented out for $25. All the money donated or collected goes to parts of the town, such as repairing the lights or it’s donated to families, Red Cross, and even victims of Hurricane Katrina.
