Types of Information Available:
Online Sources:
  • Assessor’s online property ownership data base, which includes owners of record since 1983.

  • Online geographical parcel boundaries.

  • Recorded history 1983 forward per the Clerk & Recorder’s online search engine, called Encore, plus scanned recordings indexed since late 1800’s (but researcher must know specific Book and Page to view these images).

  • In office sources:
  • Assessor: Hard copy maps, plats, property record cards, property ownership books, mineral interest books, abstract of assessment reports.

  • Treasurer: past tax rolls and ledgers of taxes paid.

  • Preferred Methods to Access the Information:
As available online the internet is the most convenient method for accessing the Assessor’s and Clerks records. Otherwise visiting the respective offices in the Court House is always an option.

    Restrictions on Information Access:
Most of the records retained in our office are public information. My staff does not do research unless it specifically relates to the statutory duties of the Assessor’s Office. Genealogical research is not a statutory duty. However, my office can point the way to researches wanting to explore our records. Subdivision maps must be purchased from the Clerk & Recorders Office. Property ownership books are original historical documents and will not be photocopied, however reproduction pages are available. Assessor’s maps will not be partially photocopied, if information on a map is needed, the entire map must be purchased.

    Applied Charges for Information:
Photocopies: 25 cents per page (do it yourself) for 8.5” x 11” or legal size paper (one side). Maps: standard plat - $15; 24”X 36”- $10, 36”X 36”- $15, 36 X 60”- $35. The Clerk and Recorders office has a statutory fee schedule for all reproduced recorded documents, which can be obtained from their office.

Kath Lawrence is very familiar with the records in the Assessor’s Office and therefore is a good resource for private investigations on a contract basis.
