In 1916 Mr. Allen Cliff, a banker in Oak Creek, built a house near the top of Mofat Avenue; he owned the house for 12 years. After Mr. Cliff moved out, Mr. Earnest Norlin occupied the house. This lawyer held the house until 1936 when the house’s ownership was passed on the Hageman family.
This Victorian house has brown wooden siding. The white trim around the roof frame and windows greatly compliments the gablestyle roof. Two stories of the house tower above the ground, and there are stone pillars holding up the roof above the front door. There is a large yard extending from the side of the house to the back.
The Oak Creek times relates an event that shows that the Cliffs enjoyed entertaining in their house. "Mr. and Mrs. Allen Cliff held a Halloween get together Tuesday night, October 31. This dance was held at their beautiful estate on Capitol Hill. All of the guests that were invited received invitations that were actually small paper pie plates. These plates had the following verse on them: 'A Halloween dance there’s going to be, And we want you there so you can see The fun and laughter by the ton. Put on your oldest clothes and say you’ll come!'”
