Old Town Hall
|
In 1924 through 1925, the town of Oak Creek held elections for mayor and town board. One party was primarily made up of Ku Klux Klan members and the other party party with Dr. Morrow running for mayor opposed the Klan. As part of his campaign, Dr. Morrow promised to build a new town hall. Although both parties wanted the new town hall, Dr. Morrow won the election and his administration ended up building it. In 1999 the building was placed on the Routt County Register of Historic Properties.

Frank J. Beck was contracted to build the town hall, jail, and firehouse building in 1927. Its outer walls were made of brick, making it fire proof. The floors in the jail and firehouse were cement. It stretched 74 feet long by 24 feet wide. Corner entrances allowed access for the council chamber and side entrances allowed access to the jail and fire department. There was an office for the clerk and the vault for the town records. Also, there was a room for the night man and a bathroom in the jail.
