Hayden, CO—Should the Town of Hayden grow to over 15,000 residents? Would you like your voice heard in how your Hayden and West Routt County grows? The Town of Hayden is calling all residents and interested citizens to get involved in the Hayden Comprehensive Plan. “Defining Hayden’s Future Alternatives” will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2004 from 7:00-9:00pm at the Hayden Town Hall. The forum is the third in a series of strategic planning sessions hosted by Winston Associates Inc. of Boulder to validate the work on the Hayden Comprehensive Plan utilizing CommunityViz.

Three alternative growth scenarios for Hayden and its surrounding area will be displayed and discussed at the Forum. “One of the surprise comments we heard at the last forum is that several attendees felt that 15,000 residents is the right size for Hayden in 20 years. That’s basically double the current size of Steamboat”, said Bob Perletz of Winston Associates. “We have portrayed what this might look like—basically a very aggressive and possibly sprawling growth pattern—for folks to understand the impacts of where that type of growth would need to go in Hayden”. There will also be a more “balanced” growth proposal that shows compact growth that is on a similar scale to that already incurred in the area but that would limit the amount of growth annexed into the Town. “The goal of the evening is to have Hayden residents pick the scenario they prefer to incorporate it into a Comprehensive Plan for growth that encompasses the three-mile area surrounding town.” said Perletz.

Russ Martin, the Hayden Town Manager, hopes that residents representing all perspectives of the Town will attend the forum. “We want to ensure that all those who are concerned about the future of Hayden have a voice in the planning process” said Martin. “Our hope is that we can incorporate ideas and visions for the future of our town into the Comprehensive Plan which will guide the decisions of our Planning Commission and Town Board for the years to come. The number of development proposals to the Town of Hayden continues to grow and we need a plan to help guide how the Town should respond to these annexation and development requests.”

Detailed information and visuals about the project and the meetings to date are on the yampavalley.info Community Information Center at www.yampavalley.info . The Comprehensive Plan update is part of a multi-phase community planning and visioning project funded by a grant from the Gates Family Foundation which has included a Community Video “Hayden’s Where My Heart Is” and the use of CommunityViz software for developing and visualizing the plan.
