Cautions of Skiing the Backcountry
Areas beyond the ski area boundary are not patrolled or maintained; avalanche and other hazards exist. Access to public lands outside the boundary is provided through marked access points. Pursuant to the Colorado
Ski Safety Act of 1979, the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation assumes no
responsibility for the safety and welfare of skiers going beyond the ski area boundary. Rescue in the backcountry is the responsibility of the Routt County Sheriff¹s Office. If available, rescue is costly and may be very
slow.

Be Prepared: Use good equipment and keep it in good condition. Dress appropriately and for the prevailing conditions. Recent studies certainly seem to show that helmets, along with good common sense and judgement, can help reduce the risk of some serious injuries. Notice how many individuals and family groups are using helmets today. Helmets are available for
purchase/rental at many locations. We encourage you to consider and evaluate their use for yourself and/or your family.
