2004-2005 Top
Yampa River Ecology Project The Yampa River Ecology Project serves 200-400 students from SoRoCo High School and Middle School, Steamboat Springs High School and Middle School plus first and second grade students from Soda Creek and Strawberry Park Elementary Schools in Steamboat Springs. Students learn about local natural areas including fish, wildlife, and vegetation. Routt County’s natural ecosystem will benefit from the stewardship projects. Cinderella Steamboat Springs Middle School students create an annual musical theater production. Grant funds will be used for set design and construction.

Peter Pan Musical Production
Over 300 of the 500 students at the Steamboat Springs Middle School will be involved in the various aspects of production for the musical Peter Pan. Producing this musical accomplish the following goals: cultivation of an appreciation for the arts; professional instruction in theater production; hands-on experience with a specific area of theater production; satisfaction in completing a full-scale musical; collaboration among students and teachers at various grade levels.

SSMS School-Wide Positive Behavior Support

SSMS Lift-Up Community Mural Project
Student members of the after school art club study the artwork of Keith Haring and create a mural based on what community means to them. Students paint the mural on the Lift Up building, document the project with photographs, and complete a reflection paper.

Yampa Valley Science School Scholarships
The Yampa Valley Science School serves all Routt County sixth-grade students. The five-day residential program consists of six curriculum units complemented by a community service conservation project. Funds will go to provide scholarships to needy students.

From Farm to Fork
This grant involves middle school students in growing vegetables organically in the greenhouses attached to the middle school. Seventh grade students will germinate seeds in science class and study the nutritional benefits of raw food. Funding would help with purchase of supplies including soil and seeds and a needed repair to the ventilation system. The project is sponsored by Steamboat Schools Nutritional Services.

Senior Citizen’s Prom Luncheon
This grant involves a partnership between Partners in Routt County School-Based Mentors, Routt County Council on Aging, and middle school students. The project pairs five National Honor Society Students with five academically less successful students to organize, advertise, decorate, cook, and facilitate a “Prom Luncheon” for senior citizens, which will be held at the Community Center.
