Dear fellow astronomy enthusiast, I would like to inform you of a new online blog devoted primarily to astronomy. It can be accessed at the following URL: http://www.newwest.net/6degrees. There will be monthly columns addressing some astronomical topic, and providing some information concerning what is observable in the night time sky. It will also contain information on events sponsored by astronomy clubs located throughout the intermountain west. Besides the regular monthly columns, there will be articles written on a wide range of astronomical topics. If there are any newsworthy topics related to astronomy, the blog will address these as well. There will also be columns written on a range of other topics, though the emphasis of the blog will be on astronomy. My name is Dr. Irwin Horowitz and I am the author of this blog. I earned my Ph.D. in Astronomy from Caltech in 1994. My advisor was Prof. Maarten Schmidt, best known for first deciphering the nature of quasars back in the 1960s and my dissertation topic was "Evolution of Emission Line Galaxies." I am currently the Educational Liaison for the Boise Astronomical Society and I am an invited speaker this summer at the Astronomical League convention in Portland, Oregon. As an officer in an astronomy club in the Rocky Mountain area, I would appreciate it if you could keep me informed of your club's activities, so that I may advertise them in my main monthly column on my blog. I encourage you to email me with information on your meetings and public star parties. In addition, I would also appreciate it if you could inform your members about this blog. I would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in making my blog a successful resource for amateur astronomers around the western third of the country. Sincerely, Dr. Irwin Horowitz irwinh@yahoo.com
