A pedestrian recycling unit (PRU) is an enclosure that houses newspaper racks and has slots for recycling items such as newspaper, magazines, junk mail, aluminum cans, and plastic and glass bottles. Yampa Valley Recycles goal for building this unit was to provide a place for recycling and to improve the appearance of the sidewalk. This PRU was built in 2007 by the Steamboat Springs Vocational Arts classes with donations from EPYCS Whiteman School, EPYCS Steamboat Springs High School, and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation. The pedestal and spacers were donated by Denver Newspaper Agency. WalMart budgets funds to service and maintain this unit.
