Curbside and Drop Off Recycling

Curbside recycling is available in the City of Steamboat Springs, Heritage Park, Silver Spur, Steamboat II, and Tree Haus. The recycling drop off site is located at 2701 Downhill Drive and is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Who can participate?

Single family units and duplexes within the City of Steamboat Springs, Heritage Park, Silver Spur, Steamboat II, and Tree Haus can participate in the curbside program. The drop off site is available to all Routt County residents.

How do I sign up?

Even though Waste Management collects your trash, you still must call their office at 970-879-2428, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and ask to be added to the curbside recycling route. 

How much does it cost?

The service is free if you have trash pickup with Waste Management.  You may pick up one recycling bin at Waste Management on 2701 Downhill Drive. Call  970-879-2428, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

What is collected?

  • Newspaper: Everything you find in the Sunday paper can be recycled as newspaper. This includes ads, coupons, and inserts. Please do not tie or bundle papers.

  • Magazines: All magazines, phone books and catalogs are accepted.

  • Corrugated cardboard: All waxless, corrrugated cardboard boxes. Pizza boxes are accepted providing leftover pizza has been removed.

  • Junk Mail/Office paper: All junk mail and office paper, except neon colored.

  • Paperboard: All waxless paperboard, such as noodle/rice boxes, cylinders from paper towel/toilet paper, drink boxes, and cereal boxes. No waxy milk cartons.

  • Tin/Steel cans: These include vegetable, fruit, soup and coffee cans. Please rinse. The lids can be recycled, but they do not bundle well at the processing facility if they are left loose. Try placing lids inside the steel can and pinching the opening closed. Otherwise, please discard the lids.

  • Aluminum: Please rinse and do not crush the cans.

  • Plastic: #1 through #7 plastics. These include most soft drink, cups, milk, juice, detergent and shampoo bottles. Look for the recycling emblem on the bottom of the container. Please remove all lids. No pesticide or motor oil containers, plastic bags/wrap or toys accepted.

  • Glass: Any color of glass is accepted. Please rinse. No window glass, drinking glasses, ceramics, Pyrex, or light bulbs can be accepted.



  • Please do not recycle items in plastic bags. Empty the items out of the bags.
