Are you looking for a unique opportunity to connect with kids, while gaining valuable work experience? School Based Mentors have the very unique position where they have access and can learn first hand the different aspects of working in a middle school. Mentors take part in tutoring, planning and implementing after school programming and clubs, community service projects and one-to-one mentoring of targeted students.

Administrators, school counselors, teachers, and parents are just some of the community members that you will be working with on a daily basis. If you are considering a career in working in schools, this position is a great way for you to figure out if it is the environment for you. Mentors are placed in 3 different middle schools within the beautiful Yampa Valley. While in the schools, you will be working with students who may be experiencing academic, personal, or social difficulties in school and throughout their lives. Mentors identify "target" students with the assistance of teachers and counselors.

Working with these students provides a unique experience for both the child and the mentor. Middle school is a difficult time for many children who struggle with their own self-identity, peer pressure, and sometimes difficult home lives. Having an additional adult on their side is a valuable asset to their development.
