The Buffalo Pass area is not patrolled. Hazards are not marked. Avalanches are not controlled. Take responsibility for your actions. Be prepared to self rescue. Travel in a group and let other people know where you are going, when to expect you back, and check in when you return.
Slow Travel Zone
Snowcats, snowmobiles and skiers are on trails, please use care.
*
Please observe the slow travel zone from Dry Lake Trailhead through the switchbacks to Rocky Flats.
*Excessive speed on trails has become an increasing problem. You never know when you might encounter another recreationist coming around the corner. Practice proper trail etiquette, respect another person's right to the trail, and keep your speed down.
Parking
*Parking is limited at the Dry Lake/Buffalo Pass Trailhead.
Please conserve the space by parking vehicles in designated areas.
*Overflow parking will be allowed only on downhill side of the Buffalo Pass road, between parking signs. All other off road parking is prohibited.
*
Please use the new Muddy Pass parking area off Rabbit Ears pass to access the same area. See the map below.
Snow Management
Powder snow is a limited resource we all have to share. Please consider these powder conservation practices:
* After a storm ski south facing slopes first then west and north last, to conserve powder.
* Keep your tracks tight, ski the trees and save open slopes.
Mt. Zirkel Wilderness
The Mt. Zirkel Wilderness area begins directly north of Buffalo Pass, and no motor vehicles are allowed anywhere within the wilderness.
