Non-traditional Senior Housing and Senior Services
Non -traditional senior housing and services
The numbers of seniors, especially active seniors, is increasing rapidly. These new seniors are demanding more and better facilities and services. The agencies serving these seniors and the companies hoping to profit from these seniors are inventing many new and exciting ideas. Many of these ideas are quite innovative and promise to provide better facilities and better services.
The OTHG committee has prepared reports on some of these exciting new ideas:
Cohousing
Cohousing is an innovative type of built collaborative housing community planned by residents. These new communities often offer some shared services.
NORC’s and Villages
NORC’s (Naturally occurring retirement communities) and Villages are innovative ways of delivering services to seniors who wish to remain in their own homes.
Private Senior Centers (Mather Café)
The private senior centers founded by the Mather Foundation in the Chicago area are an innovative concept for delivering services and a greater sense of community to neighborhood seniors.
Green House Nursing Centers
Green House nursing centers are a whole different way of looking at traditional nursing homes. The OTHG committee generally does not editorialize but it must be said the Green House concept has the greatest potential for making a positive improvement in the lives of seniors of any idea we have looked at.
