OTHG HIKES 2009
Check the website each Sunday night for a change in hiking destination? Especially early in the hiking season, we sometimes run into piles of snow at higher elevations and may also encounter some driving difficulties as some roads are still wet. As a result we may change the hiking destination from the ones indicated on the website.
Steamboat's OTHG hikes will follow the same "leaderless" format as the past few seasons. A "suggested" hjke sequence is listed below. The hiking group may deviate from the suggested sequence based on hiking/weather conditions. All of the hikes are described, in detail, in the book "Hiking the Boat II" by Diane White-Crane.
Suggested meeting times are also listed. The meeting place is the Safeway parking lot.
Hikers should be prepared a packed lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and bug repellent. It is also advisable to purchase a Colorado Search and Rescue Card. This is available from several sources, including "Straightline" in downtown Steamboat Springs and the U.S. Forest Service office.
Since the hikes are leaderless, they have been scheduled for Independence Day week for whoever would like to spend the holiday hiking. Hikes after Labor Day can be organized on an "ad hoc" basis by the group, depending on conditions.
