v Mineral Springs Walking Tour: Every Tuesday from June 30-Sept. 1, 9:00-10:30am, FREE.
Starts at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot on 13th St. When the early settlers lost their livestock they would look around this mineral spring first because the animals LOVED the salty waters. Join a Yampatika naturalist on this easy walking tour to find out which spring, and also learn how the Steamboat Spring was named as well as many more fun mineral spring facts. All tour participants will receive a coupon for $1 off admission to the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
v Olympic Heritage Walking Tour: Every Wednesday from July 1-Sept. 2, 9:00-10:30am, FREE.
Starts at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill, 845 Howelsen Parkway. This easy walking tour explores Steamboat’s Olympic heritage, the multiple talents of Carl Howelsen, and the history of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Winter Carnival, Howelsen Hill, and ski jumping. Once at Howelsen Hill, participants will witness the daring feats of ski jumpers soaring through the air during practice. Sponsored by the Tread of Pioneers Museum and Historic Routt County! All tour participants will receive a coupon for $1 off admission to the Tread of Pioneers Museum and a FREE ticket for the Howelsen Hill chairlift.
v Downtown Historic Walking Tour: Every Thursday from July 2-Sept. 3, 9:00-10:30am, FREE.
Starts at the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St. This easy walking tour highlights the historic buildings and architecture of downtown Steamboat Springs, town development, and the early settlers. Participants walk past and discuss many historic buildings including the Old Town Pub, the Pioneer Building, Pilot Building, and more. Sponsored by the Tread of Pioneers Museum and Historic Routt County! All tour participants will receive a coupon for $1 off admission to the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
v Brown Bag Lecture Series: Every Friday from July 3-Sept. 4, Noon-1:00pm, FREE.
Come to the Tread of Pioneers Museum and discover the history of Steamboat Springs through the locals who lived it. Each one-hour program features a lecture topic that reveals the unique history of our area. Exciting topics have included the extinct mining town of Mount Harris, local outlaw stories, agricultural history and local family histories. Bring a friend and bring a lunch! ~8/25 - Life of the Mountain Man Kids Program: Tuesday, August 25, at 4:00pm and again at 5:30pm, FREE.
Come to the Tread of Pioneers Museum to explore the fur trade in Colorado. How did the mountain men live, hunt, travel, and trade? Who were the people he encountered? Find out and then view some of the artifacts he would have used.
~9/17 - Open House at the Historic Crawford Home: Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4:00-6:00pm. FREE.
Step back in time and tour the historic Crawford home. Built in 1894, the stately stone landmark at 1184 Crawford Avenue was the home of Steamboat's founding family, the Crawfords. Now restored to its original condition and listed on teh National Register of Historic Places, the Crawford family and the Tread of Pioneers Museum would like to offer you personal tours of this magnificent home. Tours will begin on the half hour beginning at 4:00pm; the last tour will begin at 5:30pm.
NOW ON DISPLAY: When the School Bell Rings Exhibit Open: June 18, 2009 May 2010
Come see our newest exhibit, "when the School Bell Rings: The Story of Education in Routt County." From a solitary cabin to contemporary college, this exhibit explores the roles of teachers, students and communities in the education system of our area.
The Museum is FREE for all Routt County residents!
