The 29th Annual Yule Log Hunt, sponsored by the Tread of Pioneers Museum and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, will begin on Monday, December 8th. The clues will air on local radio stations and will also be printed in the Steamboat Today.
A new clue will be released each weekday, until 10 clues have brought Yule Log hunters closer to the log's hiding place. The 2008 hunt starts at the site of last year's hiding place: Rita Valentine Park (up Angler's Drive). Clues often include information that refer to community history or past events. The final clue will be released on Friday, December 19th.
The Yule Log Hunt has been a traditional holiday event in this community for over a quarter of a century. The three foot long, 50 pound log is hidden within the city limits of Steamboat Springs. It is distinctively marked in red with "Yule Log" and at least a portion of it will be visible from its hiding place. The log will not be inside of buildings or areas that charge fees to enter.
When the log is found, it must be physically presented to a Tread of Pioneers Museum staff person before the winner can claim the $150 gift certificate from the Steamboat Chamber Resort Association and a framed historical photograph adorned with a "Yule Log Winner 2008" plaque. Join the fun, collect the clues, find the log and you will be $150 richer!
