Tracks and Trails Museum
The new Tracks and Trails Museum is located on 129 East Main Street in the old Oak Creek Town Hall (1927) in the heart of Oak Creek, Colorado. Since 1998, the Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg paved the way for the restoration of Old Town Hall. About 200 people attended The Tracks and Trails Museum dedication, which was held July 28, 2007. Around 300 people, including current and former railroaders, enjoyed the dedication of the Phippsburg Railroad Memorial on June 9, 2007 in the Phippsburg Community Park. Officially, Tracks and Trails Museum is now open and serving the public with an emphasis on coal mining, railroads and local history. We invite you to experience the history of Oak Creek, Phippsburg and our surrounding area!

VISIT USThe Outdoor Mining Display sits adjacent to the Tracks and Trails Museum building. A forty yard drag-line bucket, weighing approximately 83,000 pounds, was purchased and put in place on April 16, 1996. A year later, the Miner's Wall Display was added to honor the men who worked in the mines.

EXHIBITSCurrently, there are nine exhibits to view in the Tracks and Trails Museum with one rotating exhibit featuring the Artist's/Collector's Wall. Oak Creek began with the development of the coal mining industry and Phippsburg originated with the railroads. Local artifacts exemplifying the history of coal mining and railroads are on display from the museum's permanent collections.

Thanks to the unselfish and dedicated service of local historian, Peter (Mike) Yurich, who has documented and preserved so much of our local history, the Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg was organized in 1998. The Historical Society was formed to carry on Mike's efforts to perpetuate the history of this most colorful part of Colorado, known as the Upper Yampa Valley.
The Society is gaining momentum with the dedication of its new Tracks and Trails Museum. Our members are experiencing great pleasure in exploring the past. You, too, can donate and/or become an Annual Member by joining today.
