Legacy Education Fund

The Legacy Education Fund (LEF) supports the work of students in the Yampa Valley (at all three Routt County school districts) as they become responsible members of their communities. The LEF grants money for teacher projects that empower youth and community members through place-based learning.  What is place-based learning?  It is couching education in the unique cultural and environmental landscape of Routt County.  It is ensuring that our students know the past and present details of their hometown and mountains and rivers.  It is inspiring stewardship and a sense of place.

To exemplify a place-based education project; the LEF hosted an event January 22nd-26th, 2014 called WE ARE the WATER.  Using this event as a catalyst and to raise awareness of LEF, we are asking for community support through a fundraising campaign.  The goal is to raise $40,000 which will fund 40 to 80 projects -depending on if teachers apply for our mini ($500) or large ($1000) grants- over the next 4-5 years!  Click here to donate to LEF through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.    Choose Legacy Education Fund from their drop down list of Local Non-Profit Funds.  LEF is a fund held by YVCF.

Thank you to everyone who helped make WE ARE the WATER a great success.  Click here to see the WE ARE the WATER poster/flyer.

Because LEF funds are almost dry, there will not be a spring grant cycle for 2014!
