A Pedestrian Recycling Unit (PRU) is an enclosure that houses newspaper racks and slots for recycling items such as newspaper, magazines, aluminum cans, junk mail, and plastic and glass bottles. Yampa Valley Recycles goal for building this unit was to provide a place for recycling and to improve the appearance of the downtown area.

This PRU was built in 2005 with funding from the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation's Environmental and Contribution Grants. The pedestal and spacers were donated by Denver Newspaper Agency. Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation provides funds for service and maintenance of this PRU.
