The river trailer is an interactive educational tool that is ideal for public events, school activities, resource training, landowner events, and other resource-related activities. The river trailer is constructed to represent and simulate a watershed and its river system. Educators can use the river trailer to introduce the parts of a river system, such as headwaters, riparian zones, and floodplains. Through the use of this highly visual and kinesthetic river simulation tool, students gain an understanding and appreciation for a river system and the value of conserving our aquatic resources.
The river trailer educational project was initiated and carried out by Routt County Conservation District through a Natural Resource Matching Grant and through cooperation with numerous local, private, and federal partners. The river trailer and attendant educational materials are owned and maintained by the District and are administered by the District Manager. The river trailer is available for use at no cost for educational activities.
